Gangsters and more gangsters

Few months have passed and we have seen or heard, for sure, about the various gangster activities happening around the country. Slashing here and there ruthlessly. The reasons of causing death here is obviously unclear. Jealousy? Hate? Maybe...but life is definitely never a cost of them.

I am very skeptical about what is happening towards teenagers nowadays. I learnt that teenagers who joined gangs or we may call it secret societies have a myriad of superficial reasons to do so. Some may join gangs due to security. Research has proven that for some cases, people who got bullied before joined gangs and became bullies themselves. These people may feel that by joining these gangs, they will be so-called protected from other bullies. However, they overlooked the fact that these 'protectors' will make them get involved in anti-social activities. They include beating up people, selling drugs and other illegal goods, raping others, black market, etc. Unfortunately, these poor individuals do not realise that they are becoming as bad as who they used to hate - the bullies. Besides, these people use gangsterism as a means to improve their self-confidence which is of course superficial.

By looking at the main reasons for these teens to engage themselves in gangsterism, it is apparent that these reasons are very trivial and shallow. It may be something that the teenagers can be looking forward to, that is to try new things. However, there are other healthy activities that are more worthwhile and important new stuffs for these teenagers to try. Taking up new hobbies such as reading informative books, involving themselves in community work and many others. Indeed we should be thankful for some NGOs and the various community bodies to conduct some of these healthy youth activities. However, the society has to be aware that gangsterism is still ongoing in the country.

As an individual, I really do hope that youths alike think of the consequences before getting trapped in gangsterism...

Why are thugs doing this???

I was indeed very alarmed to learn about the 2 cases of death involving a group of teenagers. One was in Downtown East whereas the other was in Bukit Panjang. As what was being said in a local Chinese tabloid magazine, the culprit for the Downtown East case was the 369 gang. Sadly, both of the victims were from Republic Polytechnic. An astonishing detail about the Downtown East incident was that it occured due to staring.

Psychologically, staring does impose a insecure and restless feeling towards the person being stared at. However, this does not mean that a person can stir a fight out of such a trivial reason. Clearly, we can see that the person who got stared was challenged and intimidated to discover that another person was staring at him. It is very superficial for one to think in that manner. I think this mentality arise due to the immaturity of one person's mindset and of course, egoism. Immaturity in this case is simply linked to generalising. These thugs generalises that when people stare at them, the people intend to create an outrage with them. They may not think that these people might have only gazed or glanced at them. Or for some reasons, passers-by may have the intention to, out of curiosity or wonder, take a look at a stranger in a significantly long time. As mentioned, these thugs may be egoistic and too self-centred such that they felt that when someone stares at them, it simply means that they have something wrong in them that caused him to stare. And thus, fighting occurs.

In a nutshell, this comes back to the issue of upbringing. These thugs may not be cultivated the character of selflessness and self-control. It is inevitable for one to soemtimes get angry over trivial matters, but self-control is crucial to prevent someone go overboard to the extent of murdering others. We can link this social problem to the family structure of these thugs in Singapore. Apparently, when a child joins a gang would mean that he lacks of security, love, care and company in the family institution, causing them to look upon other people. But in this case, it is the wrong people. Also, these gangsters may be facing family violence from young which caused hurting people part of their culture.

By looking at this problem, parents should be aware that they are the main people who are responsible in the upbringing of their children. Like what we heard a saying since ages ago that goes, "Kids will learn from their parents." Hopefully, the recent Downtown East and Bukit Panjang death incident would give parents the awareness to give the utmost care to their children. And for those teenagers out there, always think before you act. Inner strength and self-respect is always important to guide us to the right path. True friends are always present to guide, and that is a reality.

Alright...I am off to study for my Foundations of Math test tomorrow

I'm back to blog, guys! ^^

Hello people! I am back here to blog again! Was looking through all the entries that I had, showed them to Jason, reminiscing the old days. So I have decided to start blogging again.

It is already more than halfway through the semester. University life for me is quite hectic, busy but fun. The fact that I have to juggle both work and school really helped me to be a better person in terms of time management and planning. McDonald's, on the other hand, had also taught me on how to value the right people, be strong on setbacks that may strike me and of course improve my customer service skills. I always find myself very lucky to be in McDonald's Forum Galleria. Only in my workplace where I can find jovial, outgoing aunts like Rohayah, Lee Chiew, Stephanie, Doris and many others. Only in my workplace where I can learn how to love, care and concern about the fellow employee. And most importantly, of course, my workplace is where I have met Jason. My best friend, my best buddy, my brother.

To more serious stuff, it puzzled me hearing about undergrads' mentality and purpose of entering the university. It may not be foreign to most undergrads out there when we talk about these dialogues:

"In uni, we have to get a girl and mingle around with chicks!"
"Hall life is fun and exciting, especially with the girls around."
"I can't wait to start school so that I can get the girls."
and so on and so forth...(disclaimer: these are the different things that I heard from my own experience, some may not have heard)

In general, the youths that are in the university now are prioritizing their social life instead of academics. Frankly I would say that such idea is indeed recommended because in a competitive world, we are looking at interpersonal skills, creativity and outspokenness and not only conformed to the 'cookie cutter' system. But sadly, these youths see it in another way, which may seem unhealthy. Having such thinking may turn out to be the mindset of promiscuity. It is not a surprise when we were to hear erotic but embarrassing stories happening in the halls involving undergrads. These breed of undergrads are the ones who degrade the integrity of undergrads. University students, ideally, have to be thinking inividuals, smart on both the sciences but in terms morals too. They are assumed to think about relevant and intellectual issues and not trivial, immature ones. As a result, morals became detrimental and it defeats the status quo of us being Asian citizens.

Looking at such problems, there should be no argument against the senior citizens who claim that the cleverer a person is, the more immoral he/she is. Such claims are prevalent especially among the Malay community. May seem as a sweeping statement though.

I really hope God will not make me fall into those breed of unbecoming undergrads.

That's all for now, gonna sleep as I will be working at 7am later, and now is already 12.14am! Hahas...

Calamity after calamity...

Gosh

Some of you guys might have noticed my Facebook status that I am a potential victim of an old indian RAPIST. Something very embarrassing incident indeed happened to me la! That night me, Gabriel, Fathie and Shanyuan went to Changi Prison to escort a detainee. While I was settling some paperwork in their office, the nurses there were like shouting across the observation cell which was just in front of the office, "Hey, young malay SAF boy here! What else, RAPE HIM!" And an old indian man from the observation cell JUMPED out of his bed, ran to his wheelchair, and rode towards the cell door. In my mind, I was like what the hell is wrong with this old hag. And he called me and MADE A LICKING ACTION OF HIS TONGUE TOWARDS ME!!! I was like screaming to the nurses in the office, "AIYO, WHAT DOES HE WANT FROM ME???" I rushed to complete the paperwork and frantically got away from there. I passed the observatin cell gate and the nurse, being a bitch, told the indian man to wave bye to me. And that stupid old man did the same licking thing to me! Damn him la! I quickly ran towards Gabriel they all and they were laughing like nobody's business, as they said that my reaction from far was humorous! WHATEVER LO!!!! Unfortunately, due to unnecessary gossip kings, this story was being made known to the whole of DB. URGH!!!!!

Emile was back for mounting after some time being away. Mounting was not bad after all. Dungeon Siege seemed to be our in-thing now. LOL! Muscle aches due to the physical activities that morning. Something bad happened to me that night. I was RAPED by Emile, Fathie and Shanyuan! Damn it la! They were like groping, trying to hump and rape me. WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They kind of like feel so incomplete if they were not to do anything to me at night! URGH!!!!!!

Exactly 1 more month left to ORD...I will miss my best friends in DB, that's for sure... =(

Teenagers in the Singapore society today

Wow...it has been a very long time since my last entry. 1 week has passed after attending the Pre-ORD training camp. Undoubtedly, we have a lot of fun out there. The feeling of leaving out the shift system for the trainee life kind of lifestyle is simply ecstatic. Instead of us being conformed to the mundane, boring mount-dismount duty, we went into attending lectures, practical lessons, etc, all done as a group that is ORD-ing together. An inaugural one, but it proved a success. And I came up with some alias about the funny people during the camp...

Yi Cheng - the clumsy scholar
Ariffin - the duck-voiced complainer (LOL!)
Qing Yong - the immature kid
Wong - the innocent superior
Sun Cheng - the dictator
Fadzil - the usual whiner
Tiong - the drills-person unbecoming (LOL!!!)
Choo (you know who) - the ah-pek mathematician
Some woman from the recruitment centre - Chia's mother (typical aunty)
Some personnel from the reservist HQ - the threatening discipline mistress

and the others who also contributed to the myriad of laughters. Hahahaha...

Came across 2 things recently in the papers. First talked about being moody proved to improve our sense of judgement and decision-making, as claimed by Australian researchers. This implies that those people who come from a happy-go-lucky lifestyle are prone to make wrong judgements about other people, insensitive towards other people's feelings and plights and (surprisingly) gullible. Indeed, I have seen quite a number of people in NS who proved this accurate. People whom I have seen to be often reserved to himself, sad and moody seem to be more sensitive towards the people around him and do make more correct judgements compared to people who are more jovial.

It should be made a point to ponder at which going through hardship is essential to build an individual's personal well-being. By looking to the current society on how some teenagers lead their way of life, we can clearly see that they lack of that essence of appreciation towards the luxury that they have been granted. We see that the society has advanced. Standard of living has increased. Technology is ubiquitous. Some teenagers take these advancements for granted and think that life is as simple as it may seem to be. This leads to social problems among some teenagers such as disobedience to parents, underage casual sex and juvenile law infringements. How? Think about it the GP essay way...

The second article I read was the increase in the number of respondents that said that casual sex is okay. The survey was targeted specially for Singaporean teenagers above the age of 21. This shows that these teenagers have become more liberalised as compared to the ones from the previous generation. I'm afraid that these people overlooked the fact that such activities would increase the probability of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. From their mentality, adolescences may wish to be westernised, as they feel that they should not be lagging behind, being conservative. However, what I feel is that Asians would remain as Asians. It is good to follow the ways that Westerners do which lead to their success in the global world. Despite that, we should not follow the negative ways that may break the Asian tradition that our forefathers has passed to us. If we were to look at Japan, we can see that the strong upholding of the Japanese tradition does not hinder the country to prosper and succeed economically. Hence, we should take that as a learning point that we need not bee too liberal about certain issues in order to gain that ideal life.

These people are seemed to be confused about the definitions of liberalisation, liberty and libertinism. I guess they kind of mix everything together. Teenagers should go towards liberalisation and protect their liberty but not at the expense of being a libertine. Sounds simple, but it's hard to be practised. They may think that it is their own right and liberty to have sex freely. However, do they ever think that is it their right to violate the virginity of innocent girls? Is it their right to break the conservativeness of Asians that has been the status quo all along?

Think about it, fellow teenagers
